Making A Nursery

One of the questions that Allison and I have been asked many times throughout her pregnancy by friends, family, acquantices, well-wishers, strangers, and weirdos is "Does it feel real to you yet?"

That's a tough question to answer.  In can feel real in some ways and not so real in others.  My wallet and bank account say that it's real.  Allison's rapidly expanding belly and growing tendency to waddle like a penguin are pretty real things too.  But do I really believe that there is a human being living inside her?  Have I truly accepted it?  I still can't say.  However, along the path to acceptance there are a number of milestones, and a big one for me was putting the nursery together.

The before shot.  There's Megan scrubbing away at the walls.  I would have helped but I had to hold the camera.

Then we had to wait because I covered the walls with more spackle than a Miami Beach drag queen.  In the meantime we started to put the crib together...

...but then we had to stop when we realized it wouldn't fit in the hallway.  And then we realized that my spackle job wasn't going to dry any time soon, so we had to give up for the night.  Meg and Mick, troopers that they are, came back the next day to help us finish painting.  I actually helped out for this part so there are no pictures of the process.  But here's the result:

Now we just had to add the finishing touches.  FYI, Michaels seems to be the only place in Peterborough you can go to get decals not made by Disney.  Michael Eisner is laughing from his perch on top of Cinderella Castle.

So there it is.  I hope you can come and see it for yourself.
